Dashboard Warning Lights Explained: What Abu Dhabi Drivers Should Know

A practical breakdown of the most common dashboard warning lights, what they typically indicate, and which ones mean you should stop driving immediately.

Warning-light color communicates urgency. Red lights generally mean stop safely and address the problem. Yellow or orange lights usually mean arrange a check soon, although the vehicle may still be drivable for a short distance.

Red Lights

A battery light can indicate alternator or charging failure. An oil-pressure light can mean serious engine damage is imminent. An engine-temperature light means overheating, and a brake warning can indicate low fluid or a brake-system fault. Pull over safely rather than continuing a long drive.

Yellow and Orange Lights

The check-engine light, ABS light, tire-pressure light, and traction-control light each need diagnosis. An OBD scan retrieves stored codes, but a code is a starting point rather than proof that a particular sensor is the failed part.

FAQ

Can I drive with a check-engine light? Often for a short distance, but scan it soon and stop if the light flashes or the car runs badly.

Can a warning light be reset? Yes, but resetting it does not repair the underlying fault.
